This Season of Penitence and Fasting
Ash Wednesday Service Online at 7 AM and available all day at stcross.org/live
This Ash Wednesday, whether you watch online, come for drive through ashes, or observe in some other fashion, I pray that you engage in this season of penitence and fasting. Fasting may or may not be about what you eat or drink. Did you know you can fast from anger, fast from blame, fast from judgment of others, fast from snark, fast from thinking our point of view is the only point of view? There is a lot we can all work on this Lent. Christians are called to observe Lent through self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting, self-denial, reading and meditation on God’s Holy Word. What is most important is that what you choose to observe Lent should be something that reminds you that God’s call, God’s design for you is more important that your own needs and wants. Often our needs and God’s desires are the same. For me it comes down to,Is what I am doing building God’s kingdom or is this something I am doing for me? Can’t say I always like the answer, but it becomes a moment of awareness for me. Therefore, I DO pray that we all enter into a time of penitence and fasting, so that we may, as a community become firmer in our faith.
We have you covered when it comes to reading and meditating on God’s Holy Word. The Path Bible study starts next Wednesday. If you preordered a book you can pick it up Ash Wednesday at the church during the hours we are doing drive-through ashes, or you can pick it up Sunday at drive-through Eucharist. I heard that our last shipment of books may be delayed due to the weather, but are hoping they will all arrive on time. We do have some extra copies, so if you haven’t yet ordered, you can do so online at stcross.org/path.
Peace,
Rachel+
