But Lent Isn’t for Another Month!

You are right, Lent is later this year and doesn’t start until the first week of March. But that doesn’t mean that your clergy aren’t hard at work planning ways for you to have a deeper, more meaningful Lent. Oh, yes, and Cameron is planning on how to have a Mardi Gras celebration the Sunday before Ash Wednesday at the end of the 10 am service. Be sure to read what we have coming up, especially tuning in this Sunday for Adult Education

  1. This Sunday at Adult Ed online, Rev. Josh will be talking about the Lent offerings and getting feedback on what is most meaningful from those gathered.
  2. Our weekly lent study will be online again this year. The Clergy will be leading discussions and questions based on the book The Our Father, by Gerhard Lohfink. This will take place Wednesday nights starting at 7pm. If there are enough people interested in a Wednesday morning group, please email Rev. Rachel. If there is enough interest, we will do that also.
  3. 40 days + 40 writes is a writing discipline through Lent that Cameron and I are interested in. We are looking for six other people to join us to have a writing group just for St. Cross. Robin Rauzi is a parishioner at St. James Pasadena and is offering this to us for free. She will send a daily prompt to which we respond and post. You can learn more here https://40days40writes.com/
  4. Calling all ARTISTS! Painters, sketchers, wood workers, quilters, sculptors. It doesn’t matter your medium! Rev. Josh is looking for artists who are open to working with him on a Stations of the Cross which will be debuted on the Wednesday of Holy Week. Please reach out to Rev. Josh to learn more. Seriously, this is going to be great.
  5. We will have Lenten resources (books and our favorite poster) available starting the middle of February. We will have a different mix of options this year: far more choices with far less copies. Not only will there be the regular Lenten selection, but there will also be some that discuss community development that pertain to the discussion about housing that was started at the annual meeting. If you aren’t coming to church, you can come by during office hours during the week and browse then. We hope you find something you like and brings you deeper into your relationship with God.

Wishing you a blessed season of Epiphany as we look ahead to our 40 days of Lent.

Peace,
Rev. Rachel+
