Construction Updates, Advent Bible Study, Messiah Rehearsal, Thanksgiving
Craving a Thanksgiving service? Next week, St. Francis in Palos Verdes has a service on Thanksgiving Day at 10 AM. The annual South Bay Interfaith Thanksgiving Concert & Service will be on Tuesday night, Nov, 20 starting at 7:30 PM. It will take place this year at the Torrance Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (22605 Kent Ave, Torrance, California 90505).
New Advent Bible Study Class Starts TONIGHT (Wed., 11/14): Reminder: our Advent season bible study starts this evening! 7:30pm-8:30pm in the Guild Room.
Join us for a study looking at scripture and our baptismal promises. Learn about how Episcopalians are applying these concepts to their lives through the lens of human rights, and explore how we also might walk the Way of Love in our own lives and communities.
We are one of the first churches to pilot this bible study, which will be made available to other churches in the spring. Cristosal, the organization that helped develop this bible study, is a dynamic Episcopal ministry in Central America, working on human rights and migration issues, which our youth will be visiting during their mission trip next summer.
We hope you will join us this evening, or starting back up on November 28. The class continues through December 19.
Church and Office: The brick work on the office building is almost complete and scaffolding has come down in the garth. Brick work on the church has begun. The waterproofing that was so desperately needed between the chapel and the sanctuary is almost complete. We have narrowed down to two color palettes and will be looking at samples through this next week and begin painting on the education building and the office.
Education Building: The framing to replace the rotten posts has begun. We ask that parents use caution in the next few weeks getting in and out of Sunday school. The contractors are doing this over the next two weeks as they thought attendance might be down due to Thanksgiving. Painting of the ceiling and the new molding will be completed in most of the classrooms this week. Windows should arrive shortly and we will start on those after Thanksgiving
Organ: The organ console is installed and will be played for the first time for the congregation at John Tveit's funeral on Saturday. Only the front ranks (those over the choir and in the altar area) are working, which is plenty to lead us in music while the organ tuners work on the back ranks. The ranks in the back of the church should be ready in a few weeks.
As always, if you have questions or comments please see Rev. Rachel or a Vestry Member.
Messiah Rehearsal: Next Messiah Rehearsal is Sunday, November 18 from 1-3 PM. Look for information to share about the performance on social media coming this week!
