Community at St. Cross

This week’s reflection comes to you after a serious case of writer’s block. After much contemplation, I decided to reflect on an incredibly important family milestone.

Our family dog, Apollo, tried doggy day care for the first time this week.

He hates car rides. He sits. He whines. He shakes. He pants. He tells us in every possible doggy way that he is miserable and would rather not get in the car.

But to our surprise, Apollo is delighted with doggy day care. He leads the way to the front door with all the enthusiasm of an Alaskan Sled poodle. His 45-pound self does full body wagging wiggles when he arrives. He’s all in.

“What does this have to do with St. Cross?” I hear you ask. St. Francis Day is months away.

Community. That’s the point. Sometimes we think we just don’t want to. We’re anxious. We’re not sure how it will go. It feels safer to stay in.

As Apollo learned this week, life is better in community. So, I’d like to encourage you to try something new this summer. Maybe it’s summer choir. Maybe it’s prayer shawls. Maybe it’s Laundry Love. Maybe it’s Coffee Crew. Maybe it’s… well, you fill in the blank. Your community is waiting for you, right here, at St. Cross.
